Sidney Crosby will be with the Pittsburgh Penguins when they open the season in Western Canada unless his concussion rehabilitation requires him to stay behind and use the team's facilities, coach Dan Bylsma said Thursday
The Penguins' first game is at the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 6, and they'll depart Pittsburgh for Western Canada on Oct. 4. Crosby has yet to miss a practice during training camp, but also has not been cleared for contact and hasn't appeared in a preseason game.
If Crosby doesn't travel with the team on their trip, which features three games in four nights with the Canucks, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers, he would miss at least two practice days and three game-day morning skate sessions.
Crosby hasn't played since Jan. 5, missing the final 41 games of the season with concussion issues.
