{allcanada} Canadian teen Auger-Aliassime withdraws from Rogers Cup

MONTREAL — Canada's rising tennis star Felix Auger-Aliassime has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup with a wrist injury.

The Montreal native, who last month became the seventh youngest tennis player in history to win an ATP Challenger title, had received a wildcard into the main draw of the tournament, Aug. 5-13.

"I am obviously disappointed because I was looking forward to playing my first Rogers Cup main draw match in front of the Montreal crowd, but my priority is to heal this injury 100 per cent before returning to competition to avoid it becoming a problem long term," Auger-Aliassime said in a statement. "For now, I am hoping to return for the qualifying at the U.S. Open and I am sure that I will be back stronger to play the 2019 Rogers Cup in Montreal."

Auger-Aliassime, who turns 17 on August 8, also withdrew from the National Bank Challengers in Winnipeg, Gatineau, and Granby. He had hoped his left wrist would be healed in time to play Rogers Cup.

"Felix is still young and will certainly have many more chances to play Rogers Cup and showcase his talents for the fans in Montreal," said Rogers Cup tournament director Eugene Lapierre.
