{allcanada} Markus Granlund of Canucks to have wrist surgery

Vancouver Canucks center Markus Granlund will have wrist surgery, after which a timetable will be provided for his return.

"Markus has had an ongoing wrist injury which we've treated through regular maintenance and rehabilitation," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said Monday. "Our Canucks medical team and Markus believe that surgery is the best course of action for his long-term health and by having the procedure now it will allow him to have more time to rehabilitate and work out in preparation for next season. Markus is an important part of our team and we are confident he'll have a full recovery."

Granlund, 23, was acquired in a trade with the Calgary Flames for forward Hunter Shinkaruk on Feb. 22, 2016. In 69 games he has 32 points (19 goals, 13 assists), which are all NHL career-highs, and ranks second on the Canucks in goals behind Bo Horvat (20).

The Canucks (28-34-9) are 16 points behind the Nashville Predators for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference and visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday (8:30 p.m. CSN-CH, SNP, NHL.TV).
