Season series: The Winnipeg Jets have won eight times in 12 games against the Carolina Hurricanes since moving to Manitoba. They split the two games last season, and each game was decided by one goal.

Hurricanes team scope: Carolina does not have a win this season, but the Hurricanes have yet to play with anything approaching a full lineup. Jordan Staal is out for several months, but Jeff Skinner hasn't played in a game yet this season and along with Eric Staal and Andrej Sekera, four of the Hurricanes' top six players have already missed time with injuries. Skinner is expected to play against the Jets after missing the four games because of a concussion. Eric Staal, Sekera, Nathan Gerbe and John-Michael Liles could all return at some point during this four-game road trip that begins in Winnipeg. Coach Bill Peters said Monday he hasn't decided on a goalie to face the Jets yet. Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin have alternated, so if the rotation continues it will be Ward, but Khudobin has a .923 save percentage in two starts and Ward is currently at .846.

Jets team scope: Winnipeg blasted the Arizona Coyotes 6-2 on opening night, and since then the Jets have scored two goals in four games. This is the first in a stretch where the Jets play a team from the Eastern Conference 12 times in 14 games. It has been a good news, bad news situation on special teams. The good news is the Jets have allowed one power-play goal in 21 times shorthanded, which places them third in the NHL on the penalty kill. The bad news is Winnipeg has no power-play goals of its own in 14 extra-man opportunities. The Jets are one of four teams in the League without a power-play goal. Ondrej Pavelec has started five of the six games to this point and has a .906 save percentage, which is also his career mark in 293 games.
