Season series: This is the first game between the Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars. Dallas swept all three of its games with Vancouver last season by a combined score of 12-3. In their final game of the season, the Stars defeated the Canucks 6-1 on a big night for Tyler Seguin, who scored his third hat trick of the season and added two assists.

Canucks team scope: After opening with three straight wins against Pacific Division rivals, the Canucks lost their first game Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The defeat was also the first start of the season for backup goalie Eddie Lack, who made 20 saves on 24 shots. No. 1 goalie Ryan Miller, who is 3-0-0 with a 1.95 goals-against average, will likely start Tuesday when Vancouver opens a three-game road trip that includes stops in St. Louis and Colorado. "These are going to be important kinds of games, so a good chance to come together, get on the road … a good first test as we kind of had a little mini-swing," Miller told the Canucks website Monday. "[Dallas] is a good, fast team, a lot of skill up front, the kind of team were we have to be patient, play a good system."

Stars team scope: Dallas is coming off an impressive week, having picked up five of a possible six points in the standings, but after road wins against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins, the Stars stumbled in their return to American Airlines Center on Saturday. Dallas let a two-goal, third-period lead slip away against the Philadelphia Flyers before eventually losing 6-5 in overtime. The game did feature Jason Spezza's first goal since being traded to Dallas in the offseason. Spezza played on a line with Seguin and Jamie Benn, a combination coach Lindy Ruff used again in practice Monday, and the trio combined for nine points in the loss. Dallas also announced Monday that defenseman Patrik Nemeth will miss the rest of the regular season after sustaining an arm laceration against the Flyers.
